Maintaining Your Toilet And Keep It Working Properly

While the toilet is a fixture in homes across North America and around the world, not many people actually know how their toilet works, what the different toilet parts are or how to repair a toilet or unclog a toilet if there is a problem.

A clogged toilet is one of the most common problems that you will experience with a toilet. This is often the result of a large amount of material such as waste or toilet paper being flushed. Although a toilet bowl is large, the pipes that carry away waste materials and water are considerably smaller, and a large solid object such as a large amount of toilet paper can clog the toilet instantly if it gets jammed in the pipe. The results can often be messy. Although it can cause a little panic when your toilet begins to overflow, you can stop the flow by simply turning off the water using the valve located on the wall behind the toilet.

If your toilet does become clogged, fixing it may not be that simple in most cases. Try using a plunger, which is a soft rubber device that you inserted into the toilet bowl, which will force air and water into the toilet. The plunger causes suction and this can help break the blockage up in your toilet bowl where it can be removed.  When a plunger does not work you will need a plumber to snake your toilet.

There are also several other problems that you may experience. One may be that the toilet does not flush when you push down on the handle. Inside the toilet tank, there is a flush valve, flapper and a ball float that causes water to flow into the toilet. It is this sudden influx of water into the toilet bowl from the toilet tank that pushes the contents down into the plumbing system. If this system becomes damaged, the toilet may not flush when the handle is pressed. A bad flapper can cause the toilet to run constantly and sound as if the tank is not filling up. While usually this can be fixed by simply calling a plumber to replace the inner toilet parts, in case of major damage, a total toilet replacement may be called for.

In other cases, or other odd problems such as leakages or toilet cracks, you may need a plumber who can identify and fix the problem. In this case, finding licensed, qualified plumbing services may be necessary. They will be able to identify and assess the problem, recommend a solution and perform any work that is needed.

If you require a plumber for toilet repairs or anything involving backed up drains, clogged pipes or plumbing installs and repairs, our qualified and professional staff will provide affordable solutions for any toilet problem whether it be replacing a toilet or just replacing toilet tank or toilet lid.
